Hottest Home Staging Tips

First impressions are all-important when the time comes to sell your Palm Springs real estate. You want to make sure that your house puts its best foot forward every time a potential buyer comes through the door. Here are some hot home staging tips to sell your house fast.

The Bathroom

Staging your bathroom can be tricky. There are a lot of things that can skew a sale, but you don’t want to spend a fortune building a whole new bathroom. Instead, consider these tips for brightening up the space and giving it a good facelift:

  • Bleach the Walls: Mix equal parts bleach and water in a spray bottle and apply liberally to get rid of grime, mold and mildew.
  • Filmy Shower Doors: You want your shower door to look clean and new. To accomplish this without replacing, use a 10% muriatic acid solution and steel wool. This will get your shower door shiny and new. Be careful to remove the door and do the scrubbing outside, especially if you’ve recently used bleach on the walls!
  • Painting Tiles: Few people consider painting tiles, but a high-adhesion primer followed by ceramic epoxy paint can give dated tile a new lease on life.
  • Furniture: Get rid of the old vanity and replace it with a pedestal sink for a big hit with potential buyers.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is every bit as important a room to stage as the bathroom. Consider the following:

  • Strip and stain your existing kitchen cabinets to make them look fresh and new.
  • Stainless steel is in: Display stainless steel appliances to attract modern buyers.
  • Avoid blemishes: If you have removed hardware, be sure to fill the existing holes to avoid unsightly blemishes in the walls.
  • Placemat valance: To give a bit of pizazz to your windows, use hook-and-loop fasteners to connect several placemats in a row, to a curtain rod. Pin the placemats together at the bottom, and done!
  • Remnant Counters: Granite countertops are wildly popular. Collect remnants from granite countertop demos to create a stunning selling feature, or see if a vendor will allow you to use your home as a demo space for their work.

The Master Bedroom

Make sure that your master bedroom is neutral so it can appeal to both genders of buyers. If you have anything that is too masculine or too feminine, remove it. Keep the walls a neutral color like white or cream, and go for complementing colors for bedding. Earth tones are always a safe bet.

The Living Room

Spruce up an old fireplace by dry-brushing bricks with a light coat of paint, cleaning up the screen and giving the whole thing a thorough scrub-down. Repair, sand and stain your hardwood floors. Built-in bookcases are a big selling feature. Arrange neutral items in clusters to draw attention to the structures.

Curb Appeal

Finally, make sure your outside is meticulously manicured. Grass should be neatly cut and trimmed, gardens bright and free of weeds, and even the outside walls and fixtures of the home scrubbed down and painted as necessary. Remember: the first impression can make or break your home sale!
